Saigon Van makes moving home a breeze

International moving firm Saigon Van gives us some helpful pointers in moving home.

Moving home is exciting. Whether it is to a new place within the city or to a different country as part of an expatriate assignment. One part of the move that poses the most challenges is the physical move. Packing up your life and then unpacking once you arrive can be exhausting. For many this is the time to call upon the expertise of professional movers such as Saigon Van International Relocations.

Established in Vietnam in 1990, this was the first international moving company in the country. Part of a Weesp, a Dutch company specialising in worldwide move management and relocation services operating in 123 countries globally, moving with Saigon Van removes the stresses that can come with a move.

Their aim is to provide a ‘golden quality standard’ to ensure that everyone who uses their service receives the highest level of professionalism. As well as being able to relocate you domestically, they operate international moves and office moves. Plus they can look after immigration and visa issues on your behalf too.

We have called upon the experience of Saigon Van to give us some pointers to help ease the burden of your next move.

1. Declutter ahead of time.

Take time to have a good look through your belongings and clear out any items that are no longer in use. There is nothing worse than arriving in a new home, unpacking and realising that half the stuff moved you don’t actually need. Avoid a last minute throw out just because all your items won’t fit in the packing boxes so spend a few weeks in the lead up to the move taking time to go through clothes, books and other items to determine if you need to take them with you. This applies to whether you are moving across the street or across the world as it is wise to be prepared to move in an organised fashion.

2. Golden rules for packing.

Whilst Saigon Van can do all the packing for you, if you intend to pack yourself remember that boxes do not need to be filled to the top. Fill a box with books and it becomes impossible to move. Create a cushion at the bottom of the box, place the heaviest items in first, and fill any gaps in the box with paper. All items should be wrapped separately giving extra special care and attention to breakables. Remember newspaper can leave residue and spoil silverware so acid free paper is recommended. Valuable items are likely to need bespoke packaging which Saigon Van can easily organise.

3. Moving internationally?

International moves can involve a bit more planning. First think about what you do and do not need to take with you. You may find some items readily available in your new country of residence but not other items. Do some research and have a look through some forums such as on pages on Facebook dedicated to life in that said city to help guide you through this. Some countries such as Thailand have a luxury tax on items that can really hike up their price. So you may want to consider getting this ahead of your move provided that you the country of origin customs allows you to do so.
