If your property is available to rent or is for sale you want to make sure that it gets snapped up quickly. One way to do this is to ensure it is presenting at its best. A fresh coat of paint can achieve this quickly. If you are considering painting your home then make sure that this done in a professional manner with these top tips.
1. Be prepared.
Don’t get too excited and splash on your new emerald green without getting your room prepared. If you can remove all items from the room. If this is not an option, remove everything into the centre of the room to give you as much space as possible. Don’t forget to cover all your belongings with a dust sheet and place one on the floor too. Then prepare your walls. Clean them with sugar soap to remove any residue to create the perfect surface before application. Once they are dry, mask round the edges to ensure you have a nice clean finish with a straight line.
2. Cut in.
The difference between an amateur painter and a professional one is making sure the correct processes are followed. Once the walls are prepped it is time to cut in. Use a paintbrush to paint all the areas that you cannot reach with a roller. Apply paint to your brush by only half dipping the bristles into your chosen colour. Remove any excess by tapping the brush on the side of the paint pot.
3. Add your chosen colour.
To perfect cutting-in you need to do it step-by-step because you need to make sure you add paint with a roller whilst the cutting in is still wet. Otherwise you may find that the paint comes up in two varying shades. So it is advisable to start a few centimeters from the edge and always paint in the same direction of the edge. This will ensure that the paint has a smooth finish.
4. Finish with a roller.
The final stage of painting is with a roller. As with stages of painting care and attention need to be taken. Glide the roller in a backwards and forwards motion over the roller tray which is filled with paint. Do this a few times to ensure that the paint is evenly applied evenly. Using a ‘W’ motion to apply the roller to the wall to create a smooth amount of coverage. Don’t forget that you will need to ensure that you have a consistent use of pressure during this stage for an even finish. And remember to overlap each stroke for the perfect finish.
